“Fantastic Resort!”

Very secluded, you will find peace and quiet at this resort if that's what you're after. Its an hour and a half (nearly two including a bit of roadworks) away from the city centre but well worth the drive. Its not the newest resort but well-maintained to its current standards. Staff have a good command of English and are highly trained. Food is also well presented. Alegre Beach Resort is a little on the pricey end but its overall excellence could easily drag me back.

“Beyond beautiful..”

Beautiful is the perfect description for Alegre.

The grounds, rooms, beach, pool, restaurant and staff are of 5 start quality in my eyes.

Upon checking in, we were supplied with a complimentary drink as we over looked the pool and restaurant area from the lobby. I was in heaven from the beginning.

Check in was of ease, with a bell boy called to assist with our luggage as we made our way to our room.

Possibly one area Alegre could improve on is having a golf buggy available to transport guests around the resort as the grounds are enormous. Unfortunately our room was one of the furthest away from the lobby, restaurant and pool area (near the stair access to the water sport beach). Walking between these on a hot day can be tiring.

The room is very spacious with your own private outdoor seating area and huge bathroom.

The buffet breakfast was exceptional. Lots of hot dishes, fresh fruit, bakery goods, juices, salads etc..

Alegre is picturesque. The grounds of the resort immaculate, the beach stunning.

Restaurant staff are lovely, always willing to be of any assistance, offering to take your picture for you. Grounds staff were always pleasant, wishing you a good morning as you passed by, always stopping what they were doing to give your right of way. Not something I expect but it was nice to be made to feel like someone important.

Unfortunately the beach is a little too rocky (shells) for my liking but the beach front it's self was splendid. Plenty of beach lounges available, hammocks under trees and beach massages made the stay even more enjoyable.
We enjoyed ourselves jet-skiing and snorkelling one day which was lovely. The prices are also quite reasonable compared to the Western world.

The one thing I found quite odd was almost every night whilst making our way back to our room from dinner the power would suddenly cut off, making it impossible to see anything. This is something they should make you aware of when checking in, providing you with torches or something.. Although it only happens for a couple of minutes, when on your own this is quite frightening.

Initially we were quite doubtful of Alegre after hearing the resort was booked out during our travel dates but boy were we wrong. The only time we saw groups of people was at breakfast which was perfect as it left our holiday feeling relaxed.

Overall, my partner and I found Alegre unbelievably stunning and can't wait to return on our next trip to the Philippines. Do yourself a favour and get down to Alegre to see it for your own eyes.

I was one very happy traveller.

Room Tip: Maybe ask for a room closer to the main facilities like the lobby, restaurant, pool and main beach area.

“Favorite Place”

going to Alegre has become one of our family's regular summer activity. The food is excellent and affordable, the staff are courteous and very accommodating. But the best this resort can offer are it's white beach and spacious rooms with the marble baths. Too bad, you can't enjoy both at the same time :)

“Relaxing. A hidden paradise.”

Rooms are spaceous. I love the bathroom!!! Old but it adds to the native charm. One must be prepared to spend $$$ on food though; bringing in your own is not allowed. The nearest town market is 30 mins drive away. Sneaking in some snacks won't hurt. The property is vast. location is calm and quiet. The beach looks lovely though the sea surface is "corally". Tip: Request that a table be set up at the gazebo for a special sunset dinner. I did this on our last evening, I paid only 550php for the rent.

“THE BEST LUXURY ESCAPE IN THE VISAYAS”

We live in Cebu and have stayed at the Alegre Beach Resort many times, because it is close to perfect. Transportation (2 hrs. north) from Cebu City is included, the white sand beach is exclusive, clean and very swimmable, the coral is growing, the pool is great, the cabanas are spacious - with marble baths, the dining is fine, overlooking the sea outdoors or with air con, and the gardens are wonderful! Staff are well trained and friendly. Time to make another reservation!

“A surprisingly undervisited gem”

I went with my family (wife, 3 daughters 7, 4 and 18 months) for a 5 day stay earlier this year. We'd booked through CX (Cathay Pacific) holidays and got an amazing deal. The complimentary 90 min drive from the airport is a bit of a pain, but well worth it. Away from the craziness of the main city, the resort is set in an idyllic location with 3 private white coral beaches. The rooms are in little 'huts' set within palm trees. I was amazed at how few people there were even though it was the school holidays. We had the beach to ourselves much of the time, meaning the kids could play in the shallow waters. There's a reef just off the shore with low cost snorkel rental. The beach bar's mango daquiris and fresh fruit juices were well priced and refreshing. Food was good - a mix of international and filipino dishes. Staff were lovely with the kids and very helpful. The rooms could do with a bit of a refresh, as they're a bit 80s design, but they were clean, airconditioned, big enough to fit a family of five and ours had a great view of the ocean. Baby sitting is very affordable and reliable, so we could have adult time including visits to the spa and beach dinners. Highly recommended.

“Well-maintained resort that's a good place to get away from it all.”

I was able to stay here in 2002 and again in June 2011. The rooms are pretty much the same now as it was 9 years ago. It is very well-maintained and spacious. The bathroom is almost the size of the bedroom. It is a nice place to get away from it all. We found the breakfast buffet adequate and restaurant prices reasonable. What I can suggest though is for the resort to invest in several golf carts to transport guests from the rooms to the reception/restaurant area as it can be quite a trek and an uncomfortable one if you have to do it mid-day. We were told that they have one but recently broke down is still being fixed. The resort has a tennis court and spa but we didn't get to try them as we were only here for a night. The resort earns top marks though for service and friendliness!

Room Tip: Try to get a room that is not far from the restaurant, reception and beach areas to avoid long walks.

“If relaxing in a friendly place is what you're looking for, Alegre is the place to go.”

We stayed in Alegre for 2 weeks and was I glad we did. The resort gave me and my husband the relaxation we needed, and the kids appreciated the privacy and friendly ambiance. Staff was genuinely warm, attentive and courteous. If one is looking for a place that has a full day's schedule of activities then this is not the resort to go. They have a selection of what guests can do but it will be up to you if you want to do so and they will make the necessary arrangements. That's a set-up my family wanted. Perfect! Vacation for us means NO schedule because we have that at work, school or even at home. At Alegre, we bonded more as a family because there is no 3rd party to entertain our kids but just us. My kids are 12 and 7 yrs old and none of them complained of boredom. The spa was wonderful! My husband. went diving and my kids dove as well. My daughter took the junior course and my son did the bubblemaker session (4 meters underwater) and both were well attended to and watched out for. I felt safe with the aquasports staff. The cabanas/rooms are beautiful and spacious. I will return to Alegre because my personal experience here has been wonderfully relaxing. My 7 yr old didn't want to leave.

“Great combination - Ecology and tourism”

Lovely resort, sensitively inserted in a sensitive area. Nice rooms and well-kept grounds, very professional staff will assist your intro or advanced SCUBA.

Good food and wines, easy comfortable airport connection (Cebu).

“Superb boutique resort!”

What really stands out about this resort is that it's not over developed! Just a relative handful of huts spread out over a large area means that it never feels busy. It was full when we were there, but the impression was that it was half empty!

If you're looking for a tranquil resort with friendly staff, beautiful coral beaches, excellent diving and excursions, then this is the place for you.

The downsides? Well they do have you as a captive audience, so the meals are expensive by local standards (but not unreasonable compared with a major city in the west). It's also spread out over a cliff side, so it can be a bit of a trek to the restaurant or beach depending on which hut you're staying in. It's also a bit of a drive from the airport. Our little 20 month old daughter serenaded us for two hours with verse after verse of Happy Birthday on the way back!

Would we go again - yes! Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Ask for a hut near the main restaurant.

“Beautiful and Unadulterated Paradise”

My fiance and I booked a flight to Cebu without looking at hotels first - and then realized how hard it can be to find a unanimously good hotel in the area! So many hotels had negative reviews, and we began to worry. We wanted to find the right vacation spot for us where we could relax, and not feel like we were at a touristy resort. One place we liked was Abaca, but at almost $500US a night for just the room it seemed too expensive for our 4-night trip. Thankfully we stumbled upon Alegre!

We stayed Friday though Monday for Easter Weekend and checked out on Tuesday morning. Food was great - the restaurant serves delicious local fare and moves to different spots each night for dinner (there was a beach-side party-styled dinner the first night, a pool-side dinner the second, and we even had a 5-course private dinner one night overlooking the ocean from a cliff-side gazebo (the way they set it up with orchids scattered everywhere and our own personal waiter was like something off of the bachelor/bachelorette). There's also a quartet of musicians that comes around to each table and plays/sings songs by request.

Price-wise, this may be expensive as far as the Philippines goes because you need to buy all food and drink in the resort, but it was cheaper than in Hong Kong or NYC by far. Cocktails are around $3.50US if I remember correctly, which I was happy with - I was relaxing on the beach, not roughing it around Cebu City. One disappointment was that the gift shop was WAY expensive (paid about $27US for some spf 90 sunscreen because the sun was so strong) but that's to be expected anywhere.

Favorite part about Alegre is that it has its own coral reef which is a lot of fun to snorkel and scuba dive on. Tons of fish, quiet beach, other water sports also available. I wish we had taken one day to go island hopping on a boat, but that's probably a better activity for a family than just two of us.

Overall, this was one of the most relaxing trips I've ever had. I would recommend this place especially for couples looking to get away and relax, away from crowds, away from it all.

Truly a beautiful place!

"Perfect place for couple"

this place is perfect for couples and people seeking for privacy, solitude & complete relaxation....

the place and surroundings are well kept but the rooms don't have wifi access...only in the lobby/reception area which is also good if you really want to disconnect from the world and just relax...the tv channels is also limited but that is not very important to me coz we are there to enjoy place and not to watch tv :)

the hotel staffs are warm and very friendly, as usual and as expected...

the beach is great (it's a marine sanctuary)

the buffet breakfast is just okay (pls take note that the buffet breakfast is not everyday, it will depend on the # of guests)...we had a romantic dinner by the beach and the chef prepared really something special for us...it was a perfect night!!! thanks to all of you in alegre!!!

this resort is not recommended for persons with leg injury coz it is located in a cliff and you will do lots of climbing up and down the stairs

overall, the place is really great and we enjoyed our stay!!! 'til next time!!!

“Incredibly relaxing and naturally beautiful”

We were recommended this resort by a friend and it did not disappoint. We got exactly what we were looking for a relaxing break, lying on the best beach in Cebu, with an amazing home reef. It is a beautiful area, and they have protected the reef so its still great for snorkelling and diving. We went on one boat trip, and there are many others to different islands. Macatan and Cebu are a bit far for a day trip, but we were being very lazy.

Plenty of other dive sites around and one site where you are guaranteed sharks. we didn't quite dare.

The rooms were big and comfortable, slept like a baby. Helped by the reflexology i had on the beach!!

All the staff were incredibly welcoming.

There aren't many other resorts or restaurants nearby, but the dining room moves to a different part of the resort (swimming pool, beach...) most nights, so at least your eating in different surroundings.

"So beautiful, very relaxing"

We stayed here for 9 nights. Very nice room/half a bungalow, very quiet a all times (unless when the neighbor was snoring...) we could hear the bird and the grasshoppers.
The place is beautiful kept, the surroundings were fantastic. The pool was amassing, often we were the only ones there.

The breakfast was great. One night we had a romantic dinner at the beach, 2 waiters just for us. The food in the restaurant was okay, not to die for, but okay.

We never left the resort - and food/drinks from the outside was not allowed.
The spa was wonderful, we both had 2 treatments.

No internet in the rooms, unfortunately.

"Total relaxation at a beautiful resort!"

My girlfriend and I have just spent 10 days at Alegre Beach Resort and can highly recommend this place for couples / families looking for a place where they can kick back and relax, eat good food and be waitered from the moment you step out of the car that pick you up at the airport till you check out. The resort has a Water Sport center with a Padi diving shop and rental of snorkles / diving gear / water jets and other. Right off the beach you have a beautiful reef, good for snorkling and diving. The rooms are private villas (each sectioned into 2 seperate units), we had one of the Ocean Front Rooms with a great view. The staff was very friendly and made sure we had everything we needed. The restaurant is managed by a European master chef, believe German, good food. It takes about 1.5hrs from the airport to the resort.
