Its a paradise....

The place is far from the city, it takes 2 to 3 hours ride from the Mactan airport. It's quiet expensive to rent a taxi on the way and it's a good thing Alegre Beach Resort provide a free service car. You have to inquire about the free transport upon booking so they can arrange it for you.
When we arrived at the place, I was really amazed by the view. The place looks paradise. The staffs were warm and friendly. We booked for a deluxe room but they upgrade us for a better room since they saw on file that it's my companion's second visit on the place. It's very nice that they appreciate us. I love the surroundings, it's very clean. The rooms look native on the outside but on the inside, it's like you are in a 5 star hotel. Then we have the ocean view on our balcony which is very cool.
The resort also offers a whole range of water sport activities, we were into diving and it's good that our room is near the diving shop so it's pretty convenient. They have nice large pool by the restaurant, good food, Spa, they have everything you need.
The place is quiet expensive though, but with all the fun and relaxation, with the nice view of nature, experiencing a life free from stress and living like it's your a private place... it's all worth it!!!

Fantastic stay in an idillic location with superb food
At first we were a bit worried that we would be cut off from the rest of the world while staying at this resort far away from Cebu. Our worries came true but in a very good way.
The pool and the beach were excellent with clear waters. The resort is peaceful and fairly large allowing for some nice walks around without getting hassled by sellers of various trinkets.
The rooms were fantastic and we could not find fault with them. The bathroom was extremely spacious.
Best of all was the food. We did not have a single bad meal. Everything was tasty. The one small drawback which was not an issue for us is the fact that the resort is isolated.
The resort is located in Sogod which is a fairly small town with no major shopping nor nighlife areas. For those looking for shopping/nightlife, I would recommend a place closer to Cebu.

The room is superb. It is in top shape, well maintained. Absolute beauty. Location is far from the airport, travel time to the resort would take at about 1-1/2 hour. My wife had doubts before getting there, because the nearby resort don't look impressive. When we got there she felt ease. It is a great place. The landscape, seascapes, and the architecture.

The hotel amenities where great, we also got free drinks when you arrive and depart the hotel.

The best thing about Alegre is the preservation of nature. The marine life where great. We loved fish feeding. You don't need to get far to feed the fish. They go towards you to eat some bread.

The buffet food was great. The food is one of my favorites. The quality is superb. Especially the seafood.

The least that I like, would be the stairs. I'm actually okay with it, walking all those stairs would burn several calories from all that yummy buffet food. This doesn't bother me. This maybe and issue to some.

Rooms are spacious, and face out onto the beach. Very romantic at sunset and sunrise. Not much activities on offer. Pool was great. You will definitely find peace and quiet to spend with your loved one as there are not too many guests staying there at any one time. Food was overpriced but the service was always excellent. The staff were always friendly and helpful. You could probably find better places in Cebu but you probably would not find better service. Recommend it highly for couples who just want to relax, wind down and enjoy each others company.

Apologize for the late review. We were there druing early Oct. 2009 for 5 days. I did lots of research online on resort in cebu before finalizing on our stay at Alegre, so I sort of know what to expect. But it went beyond our expectation. We love it very much and would recommend to anyone who is looking for just a quiet beautiful place to relax. If you are into night clubs and partying, this is NOT for you. If you simply just want to do nothing other than listening to the waves and feeding fish along the beach, then this is it!
I don't want to repeat too much; most are covered in previous review. here is a quick summary:
1. Very nice clean beach; depends on weather; during Oct. waves can be a bit rough. On calm days, you can swim and feed the fish along the beach. You can snorkel right off the beach at the marine sanctuary; the corals are beautiful, you wil find lots of crown fish! Ask the staff for old bread during breakfast. Most of time we are the only one on the beach.
2. Room is clean and good size; love the bathroom and they decorate with fresh flowers every morning. The only negative is each cabana has 2 rooms and they share a common wall in the middle at your bedboard; sometimes you can hear your neighbors next door.
3. Food is amazing. My hubby had Rock Losbter Green Mango Salad every single night for appetizer!! Tuna steak; pork chop; chicken.... are all very good. They make some really tasty fresh juice and smoothies and cocktails!!! They picked a fresh coconut from the tree for me after i placed the order for coconut juice. We think the price is reasonable (we are from New York/HK). YOU MUST TRY THEIR SIGNATURE DESSERT!!! I forgot the name, but ask them, it is in a big bowl can be share by 2 person. We have no idea what it is but just freaking tasty that we ordered the same dessert EVERY NIGHT.
4. We ate on the beach everyday and every night. The staff are so nice they will ask us where do we want to have dinner and they will set up the table on the beach for us while we went back to our room to clean up after a day on the beach!!!!
5. The live bands have such good voice. There are 2 bands; one with 2 guys and a girl, and one with three guys. Both Amazing. We never like live bands because most are very loud and cheesy; but these 2 bands play softly and tastefully; echo with the ocean waves in the background; felt like a dream. They came over to play for us even we were having dinner on the beach. We were the only table; just us; and the music; and the ocean. Heavenly.
6. All staff including drivers are extremely helpful and friendly. We give them tips and they refused. Unbelievable. Each of them say goodbye to us before we check out and wish us a safe trip home. Yes it is almost a 2 hours drive to the airport if the traffic is bad; but it is a fun ride to see the local town. The driver even bought us water and share his lunch/snack with us (local philipino rice cake, very tasty!) They are just lovely people.
7. other than the beach, we went mountbike (free use).
8. bring your computer; wifi is free at the lobby but using their computer in the business center is expensive. The gift shop has sunscreen even water shoes at a reasonable price.
9. feel very safe on the property; guard on the beach and around property day and night.
OK didn't mean to write such long review. Hope this help.

Nice place, worth going there.

We stayed at the resort for 4 nights. It took us 1 hour to go there from the airport at midnight. The transfer was complimentary and on the way back the resort arranged a free transfer to the ferry port. The staff was very friendly and the rooms comfortable with enough space. Breakfast was one of the best. Our extra requests very handled to our full satisfaction, like a complimentary mountanbike tour or purchase of ferry tickets in Cebu for us.
The best thing was the diving. First of all very new equipment, polite dive instructors and the X-mas cave just in front of the hotel at night at 25 meters with flash light fishes and sting rays will be for always in our memories. Defintely worth going there.

I've been to ALEGRE BEACH RESORT last April 2008, with my Boss from Manila, we are really having fun, my boss was so relaxed with the place, away from the traffic of Manila. THey have a friendly staff that will attend your needs. This is the best for honeymooners, family gatherings or just be with your self and nature.

I'm looking forward to be on this place SOON,..

Keep up the good work people!!

For our conference, we went to Alegre Beach Resort, which was about an hour and half road trip away from Mactan Airport in Cebu. On the way there, I was kind of seething why our HR department couldn’t have chosen Boracay or a beach that didn’t require us a long road travel. But along the way, as I got to see Cebu’s pretty countryside, I forgot about the road travel and found myself enjoying the trip. Having been to Cebu a couple of times, staying in the city, It was a pleasant surprise to see a different side of the province.

A bigger surprise was the resort itself. I’ve heard of Alegre before but I did not expect it to be that beautiful. The whole resort was beautiful, the rooms beautiful, the pool beautiful, the beach was beauuuutiful. Even the staff were beautiful. And really helpful too. We had a very productive conference there, due in no small part to the staff that were assigned to us, who were unobtrusive yet, were there to give us whatever we needed.

The food was another huge surprise. I am not a foodie and I cannot describe exactly the food we had, except to say they were delicious! From the soup to the salad, to the fresh seafood, to the yummy dessert, everything was delicious. Even the San Miguel beer we had tasted different – maybe because it was ice cold and we were drinking it right at the beach

We only had a day to really enjoy the resort. So on our last day there, we took to the beach, jetskiied, splashed in the pool and had our photos taken in every corner of the resort. All in all, it was by far the best conference we had, largely because we had it in one of the best resorts I’ve been to all my life. On our way back, I once again enjoyed the Cebu countryside, thankful to our HR department for bringing us to Alegre.
